Valentine's New Day

Every year, at my daughter's school, we celebrate Kindness Day. Which is really just a culturally sensitive name for Valentine's Day! My daughter attends a charter school that celebrates children from over 30 countries! So instead of the old fashioned American Term Valentine's Day, we celebrate sending each other some kindness, which I prefer. My husband always says that we shouldn't wait for one day of the year to tell others how much we love them...I have learned that he makes a good point. Especially in times like now. It takes nothing but a call or a card to show someone you appreciate them. So when I saw these cute cards on the Creative Market website, I decided to make small ones and put my own little spin on them!

I downloaded the Valentine's Day Greeting Cards template from Creative Market HERE for free (they release free graphics every Monday but you will have to purchase them after the week is over). I then imported them into In Design (you can use Word, Power Point, or any editing software). I scaled them down to the size I wanted (I did about 3"x4") and copied it so that I had 2 od the same image. I lined one up on one side of the paper (set to landscape) and the other image on the other side, making sure there was enough space in the middle for the back of the card.

I then printed them out on card stock and used a paper cutter to cut out around both pieces evenly. If you don't have a paper cutter, you can use a ruler and scissors to cut them out!

Cut along the lines of the top, bottom and outer sides of the card. Going by the image on the right, fold along the left edge of the image, lightly mark the right edge with a pencil and cut along the line to get a card.

This was my experiment card with the glitter marker! The detail of the marker is a little harder to see in the pictures above!

I used my extra image to cut out pieces for a 3-D effect. I used Elmers glue to fill in the area I wanted and covered it with glitter. After it dried, I used a foam sticker to attach it to the front of the card.

For the the ones I did not want to do 3-D, I used a red glitter marker to go over the red areas on the front of the card! For the glitter markers, I used a brand from Target called

Spritz found in the craft aisle for $5.00!

Now there wasn't any templates for envelopes and I have an envelope maker but you don't have to use one for these! You can use ribbon to tie around them, a cute heart stick to sandwich the edges together, or you can custom make your own envelope. You can also stick them inside a cute little gift bag.

Another alternative is to make it like a kid's card and just cut out the image like it is a small postcard! Do whatever your heart is feeling! Whatever it is, spread the love!

Happy Kindness Day!

With Love,

Micole Elise
