Crystal of the Month: January

Happy New Year! New Years are always filled with so much hope of fresh starts and new dreams. With recent events going on, we are hoping more than ever for positive change. I myself have a long wishlist. Not because I believe in New Year resolutions but because I am resetting and refocusing my energy and intentions. I want release the mindset of lack and gain a mindset of abundance. Abundance in spirituality, love, finances, happiness, and health. I have the perfect stone to help manifest these things! When I tell you what it is, you will be like "ughh duh"! Known as Fool's gold, this month's stone is a Pyrite!

Pyrite Heart of Gold from from Crystalage.com

The color gold alone has always symbolized wealth, abundance, prestige, royalty, and success. The list can go on and on. The actual stone Pyrite looks very much like a nugget of gold. Some say that as soon as it touches the skin, it brings warmth, a sense of increased vitality, and a zest for life. This stone is a master motivator, increasing your will power and sense of balance. This makes a lot of sense to me because Pyrite is connected to Sun energy. Have you ever felt crappy and decided to go out and get some sun? Immediately you start to feel more energized and one with Earth. The Sun gives you that vitamin D that your body is needing to help produce better moods and negate stress. It has been scientifically proven that if you feel good, you do good!

Pyrite is also amazing for protecting you from any negative vibrations or energy. It stimulates the intellect and enhances memory, helping to recall relevant information when needed. Pyrite also helps one to see behind facades and promotes an understanding of what lies beneath words and actions. According to Charmsoflight.com, "Pyrite inspires the universal energies to activate the nourishing energies of the body. It encourages the ideal of health, intellect, and emotional well-being. It allows one to recognize the purity of the universe". How magical can one stone look and be?!

Myths & Lore

Why is it referred to as "Fools Gold"? During the gold rush, the stone was commonly mistaken for real gold by naive gold prospectors. Dishonest miners would add it to their mines, convince prospectors to dig and think they were walking away with real gold only to find out later that they had been made into fools.

Considered a stone of magic and great power, it was commonly used by indigenous North American Shamans. They carved Pyrite into amulets for divination and healing ceremonies. Both Incan and Aztecs polished large stones of Pyrite to make mirrors for fortune telling and scrying. While one side was polished, the other side was carved into designs that would help invoke spirits.

Back in Medieval Germany, it was known as "cat's gold" and was favored as a decorative stone. They would carve the boxes into shoe buckles, rings, snuff boxes, and other accessories. In France, it is still known as the "stone of healing" for it's positive healing properties.

Care When using and cleansing your Pyrite, use lukewarm water with very little soap. Rise and and let air dry. You may use a soft rag to restore luster after drying. Do not steam, boil, or put in a ultrasonic cleaner (may cause oxidation and ruin the stone). Can be charged by the moon or the sun.

I love my Pyrite stone! I keep it on my daily manifestation card holder! I also like to keep it around other green stones that promote wealth like aventurine, jade, tiger eye, and malachite. I also gave a few away as gifts for Christmas so that the receiver could bring in the new year with abundance, wealth, and prosperity! Where do/will you keep your Pyrite? Either way, I am sending you an abundance of all the good things you need! Happy New Year!

With Love, Micole Elise
