Crystal of the Month: March

I hate to be cliche but it's March and I owe it to my 8% Scottish heritage to celebrate a GREEN stone that represents luck! According to Ancestry.com, I am only 8% Scottish and 2% Irish. Now I was not raised with any Scottish traditions (nor any other non-American traditions) but as I learn more, I like to think about what I would believe if my family carried out Nigerian traditions and Mexican traditions? Either way, I feel very fortunate to have been blessed with what traditions I do have! So I may not have been blessed with the "luck of the Irish" but I do have Aventurine on my side!

Myths & Lore

The name Aventurine actually derives from the Italian word "a ventura" meaning "by chance". Rumored to be made by accident, a Venetian glassmaker accidentally broke a mirror and melted it into molten with copper fillings. He then named it Aventurine which now is actually known as a man-made stone called Gold-stone. Actual Aventurine stones have been used for over 2.5 million years. Used in Chinese culture, it was thought to be more valuable than jade. According to LotusFun.com, "Green Aventurine honors Guan Yin, which translates to "She who harkens to the cries of the world." She is known to the Chinese as the Goddess of Mercy, Passion, and Unconditional Love. The protector of children, women, and the unfortunate, she is the most loved of the Chinese Goddesses."

Amazonias used it for jewelry and talismans after finding it in Brazilian caves. Early Tibetans placed Aventurine over the eyes of deities in temples because they believed the green gems increased visionary powers of the monks who represented them.

Feng Shui experts believe that an elephant with it's trunk facing upwards symbolizes victory, prosperity, and good luck so you may often see elephant statues made of Green Aventurine!

If you want to use your Aventurine for manifesting luck or wealth, you can wear it in a piece of jewelry, carry it in your pocket or wallet, and you can place it somewhere you will see it everyday! I like to put mine in my purse...and occasionally on top of lotto tickets. We haven't hit "Lucky for Life" yet but I still have hope! Happy Saint Patrick's Day and may you have an abundance of wealth, health, love, and luck!

Cheers to my ancestors, Micole Elise
