According to Awarenessdays.com, "The first World Friendship Day was proposed for July 30, 1958 by the World Friendship Crusade, an international civil organisation that campaigns to foster a culture of peace through friendship. Many years later, in 2011, the 30th July was declared as the International Day of Friendship by the General Assembly of United Nations.
With the growing popularity of social media throughout the world, there has been an increase in celebrating World Friendship day and International Day of Friendship online as well as with community activities in local communities aimed at bringing those of different backgrounds together."

The day was originally created by the card company Hallmark in what some believed was just a money gimmick. Traditionally, participators bought cards and gifts for friends but the tradition didn't hold up for long. In today's world where it is easy to get caught up in electronic correspondences, we forget the importance of showing personalized, heart felt appreciation for friendships. It doesn't haven't to be monetary either. Make a friend a card to say hey or send them something that represents your friendship! Go old school and make a friendship bracelet. If you haven't talked in a while, give them a call. Just make an effort to let them know that you value their friendship.

Pura Vida "Dreaming Outloud" Style Pack Bracelet
If you don't have time for creativity, Pura Vida makes these amazing bracelets in several colors and for several causes. They are cute for accessories but give them meaning if sharing one. Maybe it's a favorite color you and your friend share, or it's for a cause that you know is really important to them. I gifted my kids and husband with colors I knew they would wear and got a twin bracelet for my daughter and because I know she loves when we can be twins! The regular bracelets like below are only $6 but if you want a variety style pack like above, it will cost more. It is totally worth it!
