Summer is gone after this weekend (I'll wait as most of you stop crying, while i dance for joy) and cold weather is upon us! That means sickness is also upon us. I have 2 kids so my husband and I make sure we level up on all the immunity enhancers. In the event that one of us actually gets sick, I have 5 remedies that help kick the colds every time.
1. Kick-Ass Immune Activator by Wish Garden
Not only do I love the name, but I also love the effectiveness of it. It's affordable, easy to use, and I don't mind the taste. My husband hates the taste but the kids can stomach it. Wish Garden Herbs is also local! It's based out of Boulder, Colorado and sold in our local King Soopers grocery store! They also offer an activator just for kids and also for expecting mothers so it is safe!

2. Grampa's Elixer
Whenever I got sick as a kid, my gramps would make me this drink that I, for some reason loved. He would boil some water and add lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and honey. My dad always says he added onion as well but I don't recall. It's easy, safe, and effective!

3. Goldenseal and Echinacea
At the start of cold and flu seasons, my mom would pump my brother and I up on Goldenseal and Echinacea supplements. The taste of each is God-awful but they do help build up the immune system. The good thing about these supplements is that they can be taken in different forms like pills, drops, and teas. There are brands specifically for kids in both supplements but consult with a pediatrician first.

4. Barry's Broth
My husband makes a broth that can kick a cold out of the chest in a couple of days. Whenever he gets sick, this is the first and only thing (outside of water and tea) he will digest. There's no exact measurement but start with chicken broth over the stove and add turmeric, cayenne pepper, ginger, garlic, and a hint of clove. It's suppose to give a little kick and spice. That is what gets the cold out.

5. Tea, Netflix and Chill the F' out
This is one of my favorites! There's nothing like a hot cup of green tea with lemon and honey and getting caught up in the latest Netflix series. I love it because it forces you to rest. You get to cozy up in your pjs and binge watch shows until you fall asleep. If you do, you can always rewatch what you missed. If you don't like television, read a good book or all those magazines you subscribe to and never have time to read. Just focus on resting and staying hydrated.

I certainly hope this helps you stay plague free, especially if you have a younger kid that's like a walking petri dish. Take plenty of zinc and vitamin C and lots of water!
with love,
Micole Elise
