Wanderlust in the Carolinas

Some of you may or may not know that I am from Colorado but lived in North Carolina for 5 years! I think the Carolinas are beautiful, especially in the Fall and that is why I decided to use the two states as my first wanderlust destination! Depending on the time of the year, most Carolinians will tell you different things when asking about the "must see" places there. It's so easy to state hop between North Carolina and South Carolina for adventures and that's exactly what I recommend to get the full effect. Here are 5 of my top Carolinas "must see" for the Fall season!

1. Asheville

I absolutely love Asheville! It is a cute town in Western North Carolina that is rich with nature, history, art, fine wine and cuisine. In my 5 years in North Carolina, I went to Asheville 3 times and always in the Fall! The drive alone if you take the scenic route from the city is beautiful! You go through so many small cities that are interesting to pass through and all the bends and folds provide you with a front row seat to the leaves changing colors. Once you get there, I highly recommend seeing the Biltmore Estate and the festivities it has to offer (tours, bed&breakfast, vineyard, private events). Also there are plenty of places to shop and dine so you could really make it a nice weekend trip! The town is romantic and artistic and I guarantee you will find charm in the downtown area!

2. Greenville

My family and I went to see Greenville, SC solely for the downtown area! We spent a day there walking the downtown area and exploring the neighborhoods. Right in the middle of the downtown area, you will find a large park like area where the water runs through and the sides are surrounded with boutiques and restaurants of all types of cuisines. I found this area to be very family friendly!

3. Lakes of the Carolinas

There are so many beautiful lakes to visit in the Carolinas but there are 3 in particular that come to mind!

Lake Norman

Lake Wylie

Lake Wylie, South Carolina. For more information please visit LakeWylieSC.com

Lake Lure (also has a makeshift beach and is where Dirty Dancing was filmed!)

Lake Lure Beach, North Carolina. For more information on visiting Lake Lure visit TownofLakeLure.com

4. Blue Ridge Parkway

Known as "America's Favorite Drive"! Blue Ridge is literally a road you can drive through and see amazing scenes of the Blue Ridge Mountain area. If you really want to make an experience of it, then I suggest going to the site and really mapping out your trip. There are plenty of stop offs that are photo worthy!

5. Charlotte Area

I couldn't do a wanderlust post about the Carolinas and leave out the Queen City! Below are a few of my favorite spots that you can visit through out your trip!

Obviously there are hundreds of more places in Charlotte but these are a couple of highlights. We also love visiting Mooresville, Davidson, Huntersville, and Concord. Where do you love going in the Carolinas?

With Love,
