Finding and Designing Your Peace

When work is stressful and you need a coffee to get you started in the morning and a Redbull to keep you going until it's time to go home, something may be wrong. Maybe you have a 2 year old who wakes up early, doesn't take naps, and moves like a tasmanian devil (my husband has came home a couple of times to me having a mental breakdown). Maybe it's a combo or life in general is just kicking your ass. If you don't learn how to find some peace, you will eventually self destruct. Mental health is crucial and there are a million ways to get back in balance. I'm just going to supply you with a few easy ways to get started!

If you are a morning person then this will suit you! Create a morning ritual that helps you jumpstart your day. Wake up a little earlier, make your coffee or tea and pull out a journal. Write down whatever make you happy. Daily affirmations, things to be grateful for, prayers, or a note to yourself. Whatever makes you happy! If you don't enjoy writing, then read! Set a goal for yourself to read a chapter or so many pages everyday. One of my morning routines consist of coffee and checking some of my favorite sites or blogs so I get that daily inspiration!

With a busy 2 year old, I don't really get to enjoy this one but it is still an option! You can try a local spa (groupon always has great deals), a salon, or even shopping (my fave). Just do something to celebrate you and relax a little. I have a lot of friends who find peace in yoga, meditating, hitting the gym, or running. It's been proven that getting active helps promote oxygen to the brain which is like is taking endorphins! It's a win win. You get to look great and feel great! I will say when I stay on a schedule of doing daily stretches, I felt better. I never got to meditating due to to living in an active house but there are tons of apps you can download to your portable devices to help get you in the right state!

One of the more obvious was to relax is turning your home into a spa. With the colder weather, this is actually one of my favorites! Take a hot bath with add ins like bubbles, bath bombs, bath teas, essential oil blends, or epsom salt. Pair it with music and wine and just allow your body to soak in the hot goodness. After your bath, lavish yourself in delicious smelling oils or body butters and put on your most comfy lounge wear. Treat yourself to feel good foods and put on a movie or read a book. Do a hair or face mask if you haven't had the time! For more body recipes and resources, check here!

This is an easy one and can pair with the last suggestion. Binge watch some of your favorite series. When I was in college, I purposely didn't schedule any classes on Fridays because I wanted to focus on me time. I woke up early, ran errands, got good food and went home where I locked myself in my room. I would eat, organize my notes or work on projects while watching all my favorite movies and series (A lot of Law & Order or Project Runway). This was my time to get things done, give myself a pedicure, and not have anyone bothering me for anything. It really helped me develop some balance in college.

This method is my every weekend gig. My mom and I would always manage to meet up at Michael's or Hobby Lobby over the weekend to get supplies for some new crafty idea we came up with! I love doing arts and crafts and it really helps take my mind off of everything. I usually try to find little things for my daughter to do as well so she is using her imagination and practicing motor skills. One thing we all love to do is get a large piece of paper to cover the table with and we sit around the table and doodle or watercolor while watching movies and eating snacks. It's a way for me to relax while having my daughter be apart of it and we always end up with some fun art in the end.

I have tried something from all 5 of these suggestions and found that they all work for me depending on what I need. I find comfort in creativity, self care, and eating. You may find that you really only need one of these to find peace or a couple of different ones. Only you are going to know what you need so take some time to design a peace plan for yourself! I would love to hear what you come up with!

With Love,

Micole Elise
