Going Back in Time for the New Year

This may sound strange but what if you stepped back in time to celebrate this New Years? Everyone loves a glitzy New Years Party and when I think of glitz, glam, glitter, and elegance, I think of the 1920s! Think of the glamorous Great Gatsby parties or the night clubs that were home to flappers and bootleggers. The beautiful dresses and headpieces. Mary Janes and T-Straps doing the Charleston. The 20's were one of the most interesting fashion decades to me! If you are looking for something to make your party a little more unique, this is the way to go!

Invitations

If you like traditional snail mail then try something like the designs below! You can always do a digital version to get it out quicker or just a good ole text message that says "New Years Eve party, 1920's themed, please dress up, etc".

Decorations

From what I have seen, all you need is the right color scheme (black and gold or white and silver) and lots of shiny things like tencel, sequins, glitter, and foil balloons. Keep things simple and straight lined to get a deco feel.

Cocktails

Make cocktails that were popular in the 20s and keep the snacks simple if you decide to have them!

Music

If you need music, you can either find a playlist from the 20s or you can still do a relevant playlist. People want to enjoy their favorite songs and have a good time. After all we are still going into a new year!

Attire

This of course is my favorite part. I wouldn't go super overboard and do a full on sequin gown but keep it fun and flirty! A simple sequin dress will suffice. The accessories are what really pull the look together. Headbands, gloves, hosiery, clutches, and feathers and fringe are all great elements to look for in your outfit!

It was called the "Roaring 1920s" for a reason! They really knew how to have a good time despite all the other issues going on like Prohibition, Mafias, Women voting, and the start of the Great Depression. It was an interesting time for all and I would love to do an entire piece on the Harlem Renaissance and give homage to Josephine Baker, Billie Holiday, Lena Horne, and other prominent figures during that era! You could even turn your 1920s theme party into a version of the Harlem Renaissance and call it the Cotton Club!
