Trend Alert: Embroidery

Even though I have studied beautiful brocades from Asia and delicate lace embroidered textiles preserved in archives, I still can't help but to think of Levi jean jackets (my mom had two and one had a car embroidered on it #80sand90s) and neon iron on patches (think Lisa Frank designs) when I hear the word "embroidery". My Historic Textiles professor would be so disappointed in me, especially after having me study a beautiful brocade textile where I had to identify it's origin and the symbolism of the images and the history/process of how it was made. Well the embroidery may not be done the same way today as it was in China but it is certainly still beautiful and the new hot trend. Below, I picked some of my favorite pieces and laid out some options for pairing so you can make the trend your own!
