A Minimalist Approach to Thanksgiving Decor!

Thanksgiving is next week...are you prepared to host dinner? Whether it's for your household or your entire family, you want to make sure you are ready and if you're me, then you are going to drive your husband crazy by over doing everything. It's no secret that I like things to be pretty. I like having themes for the holidays so I can have an excuse to be crafty and decorate. Now the major trend this year is plaid but plaid can quickly become overwhelming so I'm going to take a minimalist approach this year. Because my husband always urges me to not waste money on decor (I change holiday decor every year), I have to be really thoughtful and crafty about it.

Table top

I want to build the table upward so I started with a table runner. I found a black and white buffalo plaid one at Hobby Lobby. I like it because it is a larger scale so not so overwhelming. You can always add a wider piece under it or a thinner piece on top for dimension (like a black piece). This one was $14.99 at Hobby Lobby but holiday decor is usually 50% off so $7.50!

Next I found a pack of mini black lanterns that I thought were adorable for tea lights or wire lights to create a softer ambiance. Six came in the pack so I will use those to stagger on the runner. I found the ones below at Michael's for $15.00 but there is usually a coupon for up to 50% off so $7.50!

I love using garlands for the table and since I have mini lanterns and some pattern, I want something on the thinner side so it's not too overwhelming. Vines can be very pricey, especially if you don't plan on using it often. I opted for using my Cricut for this one so I looked for a simple vine print to repeat. I figured I would use felt just for some color on the table. I did a layered felt with a contrast thread where you could just sew a straight line down the vine to keep together.

Serveware

We don't do place settings at our house. We just get in where we fit in and usually we set all the food on the table in the middle but this year I am changing it up a little! We have cream dishes and matching platters so we will use those and silverware we already have (silver). I've been dying to get matte black flatware but I made a promise to my husband so I will honor that (not sure for how much longer though). But if you are interested...

For drink wear, I want the pop of color incorporated so I went for blue plastic cups because who knows what color I will want for next year! I found these at Party City in a 72 piece pack for $9.99. I really wish they would have had a sky blue but the royal is really pretty. I'm sure the dollar store has paper cups in blue as well. It will save you so much trouble later with dishwashing and they are recyclable.

Wall Hangs

Of course I like a wall hang or two so I found this "create your own" banner at Target! I love it because you can use it for birthdays, holidays, hashtags, or whatever you need it for! I've already used it for 3 events so it was well worth the $7.99! I have only seen it in this glittery white color but it has worked so far and it will work this time!

I also am making a small wreath out of glitter cardstock. I made a Fall one earlier this season in gold, bronze, and orange and it came out pretty good so now I want one for Thanksgiving! I used the colors white, light blue, and ocean blue. I temporarily tacked on the "Grateful" banner in black to incorporate the black from the table runner. I plan on using this wreath for another project later!

So there it is! The minimalist version of a well put together Thanksgiving dinner for $45 or less (this doesn't include the flatware)! Even though I like the idea of how pretty the table looks, we all know it's what goes on the plates that's really important! Everyone comes together over the meals. We have this dinner to celebrate with loved ones, show gratitude, and eat good food. Find ways to make great memories this holiday!

Happy Thanksgiving loves and thank you for those of you who support the blog and our efforts! The best is yet to come!

With love,

Micole Elise
