WHO
Tracee Ellis Ross!
I've watched her since she was in Girlfriends and continue to watch her in Blackish! I love to see her playing Rainbow (Bow) Johnson on the hit sitcom Blackish because I can look at Tracee and see myself in her. I see pieces of my husband in Dre and pieces of my kids in the Johnson kids. I am always drooling over her fashion and beauty in the show and in her real life. She constantly makes me want to wear cornrows with hoop earrings and a bold lipstick. I'm a little obsessed with her.

WHY
After years and years of trying to force her hair to fit in with society's definition of what beautiful hair was (straight bouncy, blowing in the wind), Tracee made the decision to listen to her hair and go natural. Back then there weren't a lot of women of color who were rocking natural hair outside of afros. Most black women went through perming, relaxing, ironing (Tracee admits to using an actual iron on her hair), heat combs, and rigorous night routines in order to achieve hair that was acceptable to society and still made them feel beautiful. Still today there are a lot of women of color who go through these routines and if not they are adding weaves and extensions in and still damaging their hair. Because of the damage done over years, we are finally learning to embrace our natural hair and realize that natural hair is not boring and ugly or any other terms that others have used to define it. Natural hair is beautiful and should be celebrated! That is what Tracee's collection is all about. She inspires us by referring to our hair as
"the unique dance and song that lives in all of our hair".
Pattern is about community, self-love, and acceptance. The strength of our DNA and recognizing that were all different. Everyone in my family has curly hair but we all have different curl patterns. We love seeing the difference in them all! My husband's pattern is different from our son and our son's is different from his moms. Mine is not the same as my daughters nor either one of my parents. I bet the same goes for you, but whatever your pattern is...
"I wish your hair love" -Tracee Ellis Ross
